Centerfold of the Month

April 2005

"Striper" Davis

History-Striper was extremely wild and had been coming to our house for 2 years to eat and sleep in one of our heated houses. I tried to befriend him and tried to trap him. So, one early morning I put a board on the entry of the house he was sleeping in and screwed it on with a battery powered screw driver. All the way to the vet he was clawing trying to get out. I felt so bad.
We took the entire house to the Cat Dr., into the exam room and had to unscrew the board and get him out. He was so scared he didn't even fight. We had him tested for aides and leukemia, neutered him and gave him vaccinations. The Cat Dr. kept him for a week and we held and petted him everyday as did all the vets and technicians. Everyone loves him. He was so sweet.

When I took him home he ran from me and would not let me near him. He wouldn't get in the heated house for days either. When he finally did start sleeping in it again, I decided I would stick my hand in there and pet him, not knowing if he would bite me or try to run.

When I touched him, he melted in my hand. And he has been the smartest, sweetest, most lovable, cat ever since. He just loves to be held. He puts each of his front legs around my neck and hugs me and buries his face in my neck and purrs. He's thanking me.

Striper gets along very well our other cats. He has become best friends with "Billy Boy" (Nov. 2004 Centerfold.) They are inseparable.
Striper started limping one day and after an x-ray on his foot, we found that he has extreme arthritis and bone spurs in one of his ankles. The poor thing. He's on medication now, and is going to have fluid drawn from the bone to test for infection. He may need surgery on the ankle. We will do what ever is necessary to help this wonderful cat live a happy life. Sue & Carl Davis
