Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility – 2006

The Cat Doctor was one of 89 national winners of the 2006 Alfred P. Sloan Awards for representing the best flexible work practices and policies in the nation. The judging used a methodology that included employees' views as well as employer practices in its scoring. "These businesses truly understand that workplace effectiveness and flexibility are part of being an employer of choice today," Families and Work Institute (www.familiesandwork.org). Additionally sponsored by Center for Workplace Preparation, US Chamber of Commerce, Twiga Foundation, and The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

 
~ 2003 ~

Idaho Technician of the Year - 2003

Rebecca Brock, CVT, was selected as Idaho’s 2003 Technician of the Year by the Idaho Veterinary Medical Association June 27, 2003, at their Annual Idaho Veterinary Conference, which represents more than 380 Idaho veterinarians. Nominated by Dr. Kerry Fost of The Cat Doctor, her contributions to the profession, her technical expertise, and her depth of caring helped her stand out in a field of many.

“Rebecca anticipates the needs of the veterinarians before they do!...Rebecca is known to be sensitive, caring and gentle with her patients...a great communicator who counsels and educates when appropriate...fast, knowledgeable, efficient...can handle a fractious cat, place an intravenous catheter, intubate or do a cystocentesis better than most.

“She was instrumental in starting the Treasure Valley technician study group to prepare for the Idaho state licensing examination...organized and formed the Treasure Valley Local Chapter of the Idaho Society of Veterinary Technicians and Assistants of which she is the Chair. She is a Level 2 technician with the Idaho Veterinary Emergency Response Team.

~ 2002 ~

 

Dr. Higdon was installed for a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, October 2002.  The AAFP is an international professional association highly regarded in the veterinary field for leadership and protocol in feline medicine.

 

Integrity Counts!

The Cat Doctor was one of four Idaho businesses to receive the Better Business Bureau's

Integrity Counts! Award, October 2002.

2002 Woman Entrepreneur of the Year

Governor Dirk Kempthorne with Kat Bay, Dr. Alexis Higdon and Patricia Kempthorne, September 28, 2002.  Award winners, Alexis Higdon, DVM, and Kath'ren Bay of The Cat Doctor Hospital and Hotel in Boise were awarded as the 2002 Idaho Woman Entrepreneur of the Year by Idaho Business Review.  The annual award, now in it's fourth year, was awarded at the Women's Entrepreneurial Mentoring System, Inc.'s Black and White Gala.

Women Making HERstory

Ms. Bay and Dr. Higdon were honored with other selected Idaho women for "Women Making HERstory",

 Boise State University, March 2002.

 

The Cat Doctor is featured in chapter two of Big Vision, Small Business: The Four Keys to Finding Success and Satisfaction as a Lifestyle Entrepreneur (Ivy Sea Publishing, July 2001).  The book, by Jamie S. Walters, discusses the story of The Cat Doctor in a chapter called "To Live Large, You Have to Vision Big".  The book is available at local bookstores, or at Amazon.com.

Dr. Higdon's contribution to a medical study, Ectopic Lingual Thyroid Tissue in a Cat, was published in "Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery", Volume 2, Issue 3 - September 2000.
